Adoption Costs

Many people who have not adopted often ask what the expenses are in adoption. You may have heard it is expensive to adopt. It can be very expensive. HH's country may not be as expensive as some, but it still costs a lot even with the grants provided to assist with his adoption. The agency fees and program fess are reduced; Therefore, had he not had the grants, those numbers would be several thousand dollars higher.  Here is a breakdown of the expenses we will be incurring for HH's adoption:

Application fee: $300 pd
Adoption classes: $149 pd
Homestudy:  $2000 pd
Medical:
   Tests: $1200 pd $400/$800 bal due
   Immunizations (see Helpful Stuff for costs of other vaccines):
             Typhoid             $ 156.49 pd
             Influenza             $ 16.99 pd
Passports: $110 pd
State Police clearances: $45 pd
Accountant $540 service donated
I-800  biometric fingerprinting: $805 pd
FedEx about $400 paid so far
Expedited processing fees:
   Consulate $45/document: to date $45 pd
   Courier Fee $180  to date $90 pd
Passport:
   Books per person                : $140 pd
   Processing fees:                     $ 80  pd
   Expediting fees                     $120 pd
Visa Fees $140 pd
Agency fees: $2785 pd $2790 pd
Country program fees: $2560 pd
Post Placement Reports & Transmittal Fees @ $510 each x 5 = $2550 pd (*China rules for post placement reports changed as of January 1, 2015 and adoptive parents will be allowed to do the last couple reports without the need for a social worker visit)
Mandatory Orphanage donation: C. $5900 pd
Legal expenses while in China $1600, cash pd
Medical Expenses in China  $600, cash pd
Doc Authentication, notarization & appostiles: $800 pd
Guide/driver/translation service/in-country air fare $3500 pd
Air fare: $1200-1800 per person non holiday travel; $2200 + during holidays.
Accommodations: $150-200 per night x 14 estimated; paid about $1200 for 15 days
Train to Hong Kong $31.42 per person pd
Food and sundries: $2000-2500
