Mr. Sweetness and Light

HH Loved by God

12/21/2013 HH should have gotten the care package I sent him last week. I hope he likes it. He'll have photos of us, his new home, our pets, and his room, plus some gifts. We'd hoped to have him home in time for Christmas and I didn't think he should go without just because he wasn't here. Miracle Man and Miss Sunshine decided we should wait Christmas until after he comes home, bless their hearts! Good thing too, because we may be leaving to get him on Christmas day. We'll celebrate his birthday with him a few days after we get him.

9/8/2013 We got new pictures of HH and updates on him this last week. He now has an aluminum crutch rather than the homemade one he used previously. He looks really good and has grown a lot since his referral pictures. Not sure if the calculations given are correct or not for his height and weight...does 5 feet tall and 90lbs sound right? Miracle Man doesn't weigh that much and he's 5 feet 6 inches!

7/6/2013 You may wonder why there isn't a picture of HH. Until my paperwork for his adoption goes through the approval process in his country, I cannot show his photo since he technically isn't mine yet. You may also wonder about the header for this page. One of the middle names I will be giving him means beloved of God!

2/12/2013 About time I tell you something about HH. HH lives in a child care center. He has lived there his entire life except for the first few months of his life; he has known no other home or family. HH was found, like many of the children in his country, abandoned where someone would find him. The search for his birth family proved fruitless.

Mr. Sweetness and Light scooted and crawled before receiving a crutch to assist him in walking at age 6 years. One of his legs ends where most people's knees are and until a few years ago it was very hard for him to even wear pants due to the way his small foot came out of his knee. He had an operation to turn his little foot to make it easier to put on his pants.  He also lacks fingers and toes on each arm and leg. His childcare center is in a rural area and while they do the best they can for the children in their care, they have very limited resources. Despite these challenges, he is known for smiling and his name means joyful.

The place Mr. Sweetness and Light lived in only began searching for homes for their residents a couple years ago. Until that time, he had no possibility of finding a family, anywhere. Period. We raced against time to bring him home. It was literally a fight to the finish. Through my efforts and the efforts of many other people, for which I am eternally grateful, the last funding came together at the last minute. Many have called it a Christmas miracle. You see, Mr. Sweetness and Light nearly aged out. I took guardianship of him on the last day possible and we notarized his adoption papers on the very last day. One of my favorite hymns from the 1952 hymnal is "I am the Bread of Life." With descants,  all four parts, and organ it is one of the most lovely hymns. When I sing it, I am transported. A lot of people might think of it as a funerary hymn, which it can be, for me though, it speaks volumes of the relationship with God.  Throughout Mr. Sweetness and Light's adoption, this hymn has come to mind again and again. Why? "...And I will lift them up, and I will lift them up, and I will lift them up on the last day!" God lifted Mr. Sweetness and Light up on the last day. I said from the beginning that he was my faith child, never dreaming how my faith would be tested again and again.
